High School Math 1

1st Quarter:

Week 4: September 7 - 11
Unit 1 is focused on recursive and explicit functions. We started by looking at different situations and how we can generalize the patterns presented with an equation. We learned how to communicate our observations using mathematical vocabulary and connected the terms in the equations we wrote to characteristics of the type of function. This was really hard work. We will continue to solidify our understanding through connecting equations, graphs, tables and verbal descriptions.
  • No School Monday, Sept. 7: Labor Day
  • A Days: Tuesday & Thursday
  • B Days: Wednesday & Friday

Week 3: August 31 - September 4
This week marks the beginning of academic learning for the 2020-21 school year. Due to the move to emergency remote learning in the spring and the shift to Plan B Transition this fall, we are all embarking on a new approach to learning. While the setting is different, the overall expectations mirror those of the classroom. Learning is best achieved through engaging with the content, the sharing of ideas, responding to feedback, reflecting on our level of understanding, and acting on the information we gather.

Unit 1: Sequences
  • A Days: Tuesday & Thursday
  • B Days: Monday, Wednesday & Friday

Week 2: August 24 - 28
We will continue to get to know each other and how to use some of the technology that is necessary to engage with virtual learning. Students need to sign-up for a time for our one-on-one meetings. In the classroom we would naturally interact and as a result get to know each other. Virtual learning makes this process a little less fluid. It is important to me that I get to know each of you, not just your habits as a student and your performance in class. You are much more than a budding mathematician!
