Math 8
1st Quarter:
Week 4: September 7 - 11
This week we wrapped up our work with special angle pairs. Students should be able to identify adjacent, vertical, complementary and supplementary angles and use their characteristics to write and solve equations to find missing angles. We started formalizing our thinking around transformations. The mathematical vocabulary was introduced and observations about the impact of rigid transformations was explored.
Week 3: August 31 - September 4
This week marks the beginning of academic learning for the 2020-21 school year. Due to the move to emergency remote learning in the spring and the shift to Plan B Transition this fall, we are all embarking on a new approach to learning. While the setting is different, the overall expectations mirror those of the classroom. Learning is best achieved through engaging with the content, the sharing of ideas, responding to feedback, reflecting on our level of understanding, and acting on the information we gather.
Unit 0: Special Angles (we start with lessons that were missed last spring that are prerequisites for the first 8th grade unit)
Week 2: August 24 - 28
We will continue to get to know each other and how to use some of the technology that is necessary to engage with virtual learning. Students need to sign-up for a time for our one-on-one meetings. In the classroom we would naturally interact and as a result get to know each other. Virtual learning makes this process a little less fluid. It is important to me that I get to know each of you, not just your habits as a student and your performance in class. You are much more than a budding mathematician!
Week 1: August 17 - 21
Week 5: September 14 - 18
Week 6: September 21 - 25
Week 7: September 28 - October 2
Week 9: October 12 - 16
